Yes, you have been told earlier that DIYs don’t work and Yeah!! most of those have not worked for us.Some has given us irritation, some has triggered acne or some has done nothing at all, Not to forget all the mess that comes along but they are not as useless as every influencer is claiming, Of course they are not making money out of it but if you do not want to spend on a number of skin care products then you really don’t have to. Our parents, aunts, grandmothers they all have been using these natural skin care regimes and DIYs from years and those have worked for them. They have this absolute gorgeous skin that too without any products. it is fascinating to me tha5 how they did minimal but had this glowy and naturally beautiful skin. This is also the reason that I always speculate using skin care even though I take my skin care very seriously but I wonder how our older generations have done less but still had more. No 10 step skin care routine, No AHA/BHAs and not even sunscreen but still this luminous skin they had and they all aged so gracefully. I think we have kind of forgotten to embrace ourselves, our flaws or the features that we inherit. Everyone is kind of after obtaining perfection. It is stressing us all which anyways is leading us to premature, wrinkles and saggy skin. I think it is also the kind of lifestyle we are living these days. always in front of our gadgets under the lights, never or barely exposing our skins to the nature. Well, we can all cover in this different writing of mine but first let’s take a quick look at home remedies for skin care that have actually worked for me. P.S. I have super sensitive and combination skin, very oily on the T zone. there are days even when I touch my skin, it would just turn red, so considering that let’s go through all these one by one:
Lemon and honey mask: Ahh!!! My holy grail mask. I do it every once a week. It kind of brightens my skin to look natural from within not like the one that we get with the products. it is packed with moisture and skin brightening capacity. Lemon juice give your skin a shine and lustre and honey gives it moisture. This mask is perfect for all skin types, you just have to be mindful of the proportion of both.
For oily skin: take 2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon of honey and mix it well until it becomes of a runny consistency( that means both the ingredients are blended well to form a unified solution). Apply it on your face avoiding eyes and the under eye area. Let It sit on your face for about 20-30 minutes, wash it off and follow with a serum and then a moisturizer.
For Normal skin: Mix 1 tb spoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 spoon of honey and apply it your face and follow the same guide as above.
For dry skin: half a tablespoon of lemon and 2 tablespoon of honey should do the job, you can also add 4-5 drops of avocado oil to lock in moisture of your skin.
For sensitive skin: take 5-6 drops of lemon juice,2-3 drops of rose water and 1 and a half spoon of honey, you can leave it on your face for 20-30 minutes if your skin tolerated but if not try leaving it for 10 minutes. This mask might sting a bit in the beginning but there’s nothing to fear if you are not extremely sensitive to lemons, in that case always do a patch test underneath your cheeks right on your jawline of in the crease of your arm. If you keep on continuing this mask, your skin tolerance must increase so, with time you can always increase the quantity of lemon juice.
- This mask helps in fading scars
- Brightening skin complexion
- Naturally moisturizes your skin.
Avocado mask: My another favourite mask. This mask is very simple yet effective and is suitable for all skin types. All you need is an avocado and curd(Indian yogurt). Just make sure that the avocado is fully ripe. Take half of the avocado and mash it nicely with a fork( it can take a minute of yours) but be patient, mash it into a smooth paste, add 1 spoon of curd and mix both into a paste not runny not too thick just normal clay mask like consistency. Now you can add a little bit of honey to it if you have dry skin but not really necessary. Put it on your face and leave it for about 30 minutes and wash it off afterwards.
Gram flour mask: This mask great for skin purification and oil control. You can do this twice a week and doing it regularly will leave you skin soft and plump. All you need is just three ingredients: 1 and half spoon of gram flour, add some water to it and few drops of lemon juice. You can add some yogurt to it for little moisture. wash it off once starting to dry. Do not keep it for too long and do not wait to get it completely dry as it may lead to stretching of skin unnecessarily. You may want to take it off by doing circular motions on the face as it also works as a gentle exfoliator and follow up with your moisturizer. This face mask will leave your skin clarified only after single use.
Few tips while doing diy masks:
>Always do a patch test before trying anything new.
>Always put masks on clean face i.e. freshly washed face.
>Do not leave masks for too long.
>Always follow with your regular skin car
